In this oral history interview, he shares the story of his deep-rooted passion for music—from picking up the saxophone in high school to building Mike’s Music and Dance Barn. His dedication to live performance, music and community is evident throughout his journey.

Much of Mike’s story centers around his long-running venue, Mike’s Music and Dance Barn, located in Nashville, Indiana. The idea for the barn was Mike’s own—a dream he brought to life with the help of his family. Together, they prepared the site and built the venue by hand right on the family’s hay field just off State Road 46. Opened in the late 1990’s, the barn quickly became a regional hub for traditional country and swing music, hosting live bands, dances and line dance lessons. Mike discusses the inspiration behind the venue, the challenges of keeping it running, and the special role it plays in connecting people through music and dance.
