Earth Fest

Indiana Music History Project Connects Culture and Conservation at EarthFest

The Indiana Music History Project was proud to set up a booth at this year’s EarthFest, presented by Earth Day Indiana. Held annually each April, EarthFest is a cornerstone environmental event that promotes environmental protection, conservation of natural resources, and sustainable living. This year’s festival was hosted on a beautiful spring day at Garfield Park in Indianapolis, providing the perfect setting for connection, learning, and celebration.

Sharing Indiana’s Music Legacy

At the Indiana Music History Project booth, Kati Taylor led the effort to create a welcoming and visually engaging space. On display were items featuring musicians from all over the state, representing a wide range of genres and generations. Visitors stopped by to grab a sticker or button, pick up a brochure, and learn more about our ongoing efforts to document and celebrate Indiana’s rich musical history.

We also used this opportunity to talk with attendees about one of our favorite community programs: recycling Indiana music memorabilia. We encouraged guests to donate posters, records, old T-shirts, instruments, and more—items that might otherwise end up in landfills. Instead, we give these materials new life by preserving them for our Indiana Music History Museum and including them in local exhibits and displays.

Preserving Indiana Music, Protecting the Planet

This partnership with EarthFest was a natural fit!

As we work to preserve Indiana’s cultural heritage, we’re also committed to doing so in an environmentally responsible way. Recycling musical artifacts not only saves history—it supports sustainability by reducing waste.

A Day of Sunshine, Music, and Community

The event was well attended by people of all ages—and plenty of dogs, too! From families with strollers to groups of teens and longtime environmental advocates, the park buzzed with energy and enthusiasm. Local exhibitors, food vendors, live music, and hands-on activities made EarthFest a dynamic and memorable experience for all.

A Proud Day for the Project

We were honored to represent the Indiana Music History Project at such a meaningful event and to stand beside so many other local organizations making a difference. Sharing our story and mission with a passionate, eco-conscious crowd reminded us of the powerful connection between art, community, and the environment.

Thank you to Earth Day Indiana for hosting such a vibrant, inclusive celebration. We look forward to more opportunities to bring Indiana’s music history to life—while doing our part to protect the planet we all share.
