To preserve, research, archive, educate, promote, and provide access to artifacts, recordings, and stories of Indiana music; to honor those individuals, artists and organizations who have contributed, to educate Hoosiers and other interested individuals as to the significance of our music history, and help them develop greater pride in our state’s accomplishments in the field of music.
Preserve: IEF strives to acquire original music artifacts and keep them safe and secure for future generations. Additionally, we collect digital images of artifacts that we do not have in our collection and digitize our physical artifacts.
Archive: IEF is building a physical collection of 78’s, 45’s, 33’s, CD’s and cassettes, as well as relevant memorabilia, including posters, flyers, signage, advertising, correspondence, photos, and related material.
Research: Indiana Musicpedia is a long-term project that is documenting Indiana’s musical history from the late 1800’s to present. Extensive research is being conducted to create listings for all Indiana musicians, performers, recordings, music related businesses and individuals, artifacts, and key dates in Indiana music history.
Educate: Utilize physical and virtual opportunities to bring knowledge and appreciation of Indiana music history. Develop curriculum and exhibits that can be used in primary, secondary and post-secondary education.
Access: IEF’s seeks to provide access to Indiana music history via websites, public exhibits and displays. The new Indiana Music History Gallery in Broad Ripple will be open to the public five days a week and we are a collaborative partner in the movement for a new entertainment museum in Indianapolis. We use social media to spread stories and images of Indiana music history that is easily accessible online.
Promote: IEF promotes Indiana music history via Indiana Music Radio worldwide and through the use of social media, as well as via public events. The Gennett Suite project and Hoagy Carmichael scholarship help create awareness of key Indiana music history. Additionally, we help promote related activities done by others.
Honor: IEF strives to publicly laud past and present those individuals and organizations who have contributed to Indiana music, whether by digital means or in public events, and providing support and publicity for others doing the same.
