Archive Collection
Indiana Music Archive of Physical Recordings
The Indiana Music History Project (IMHP) is on a mission to build a comprehensive, one-of-a-kind archive of physical music releases from across the state. From local garage bands to chart-topping legends, Indiana’s music scene has produced a rich and diverse array of sounds—and we’re working to preserve every last note in its original format. Our growing archive already includes thousands of vinyl records, CDs, cassette tapes, and even rare 78 RPM discs, but this is just the beginning.

Preserving the Soundtrack of Indiana—One Record at a Time
Whether it was pressed by a major label or self-released out of a bedroom studio, every piece belongs in the story of Indiana music. We’re inspired by the archival legacy of institutions like the Smithsonian, and we believe that our state’s musical history deserves the same level of care, respect, and preservation.
The core of our archive is from Rick Wilkerson’s 2023 donation of more than 5,000 pieces of Indiana music and memorabilia, which he had collected for thirty years. Many people have donated items before, and especially since his donation, and we are grateful for each one.
Our long-term vision is bold but simple: to collect at least one copy of every music release ever produced in or connected to Indiana.

Help Build Indiana’s Musical Archive
An Archive Collection project of this scale can only succeed with community support. We rely heavily on donations from music lovers, collectors, artists, and families across Indiana. If you have music recordings you no longer need—whether it’s a box of old cassette tapes in the attic, a shelf of CDs gathering dust, or a stack of records passed down through generations—consider donating them.
The IMHP collects and preserves physical and digital recordings, and memorabilia of all kinds.
