Digital Indiana Music Archive
The Indiana Music History Project is committed to preserving the state’s musical legacy through ongoing digitization of music recordings and photography of memorabilia. Digital Preservation of Indiana Music & Memorabilia
This work directly supports key initiatives like Indiana Music Radio, the Indiana Music Kiosk, and Indiana Musicpedia. With the launch of our upgraded audio lab in 2025, we’ll be able to expand and accelerate our preservation efforts. Our team is busy digitizing Indiana cassettes and vinyl, and ripping Indiana CD’s for a permanent archive of Indiana music.
In addition to audio preservation, we are also digitizing Indiana music memorabilia by photographing and cataloging items from our collection. These include photos, ticket stubs, posters, flyers, programs, and more—each one helping to tell the story of Indiana’s vibrant music history. This visual archive plays a key role in capturing the full scope of our state’s musical past.

We’re grateful for the Indiana Historical Society’s Heritage Support Grant program, funded by the Lilly Endowment, and the Nicholas J. Noyes, Jr. Memorial Foundation for helping make this vital work possible.
Digital Archive of Original Indiana Music
Cataloging digital-only music releases is a growing challenge, but we’re proud to support efforts to preserve this important part of Indiana’s music history. Our friends at Musical Family Tree (MFT), in partnership with the Monroe County Public Library (MCPL), host a digital archive dedicated to Indiana artists and their original music.

Since 2004, MFT has collected thousands of songs from hundreds of local musicians—many of which aren’t available anywhere else. Their platform also maps connections between artists, showcasing collaborations and shared band members.
We encourage you to contribute, whether the music was released digitally, physically, or both.
