Project Falu

The Indiana Music History Project (IMHP) is proud to serve as the fiscal sponsor for one of the most exciting and culturally rich musical endeavors to emerge from Indiana in recent years: Project Falu, led by acclaimed composer, arranger, and educator Brent Wallarab.

Project Falu is a genre-defying musical collaboration that reimagines classic Indian folk songs through contemporary classical arrangements and Western orchestration, blended seamlessly with traditional Indian instruments and choir. The result is a lush, cinematic experience—a powerful musical journey that bridges cultures and traditions with elegance and innovation.

A Collaboration Rooted in Respect and Creativity

Brent Wallarab, a leading voice in large ensemble arranging and a cornerstone of Indiana’s music community, has received significant praise and encouragement from Grammy-nominated vocalist Falu and her husband, producer Gaurav Shah, both of whom bring deep cultural and artistic insight to the project. Their support reinforces the creative vision behind this work: honoring the heart of Indian folk tradition while exploring new artistic frontiers.

Wallarab is now well into arranging the ~10 selected songs, carefully crafting the balance between East and West, tradition and innovation. His attention to detail and deep musical sensitivity have already made this project one of the most anticipated in his body of work.

Indiana Roots, Global Scope

The core ensemble for the Indiana-based recording sessions has already been identified, featuring some of the state’s finest musicians. These sessions will take place in the summer and fall of 2025, with additional recordings to follow outside Indiana—including sessions featuring select Indian instruments and choir, essential to achieving the full sonic vision of the project.

Coming 2026: A Cross-Cultural Musical Landmark

When complete, Project Falu will be released in 2026, offering listeners a deeply textured, emotionally resonant album that merges folk heritage with modern orchestral storytelling. It’s a celebration of cultural exchange and musical craftsmanship—and a reminder of how music can connect us across time, geography, and tradition.
