Description
Before the Jackson Five became international stars, a teenage dance promoter in Indiana became part of their story. In Man in the Mirror: How Music Changed My Life, Frank Brummett looks back on the unexpected circumstances that brought him into the young group’s world.
At 17, Frank was scrambling to find replacement performers for dances he had organized. His search led him to the VFW Hall in East Chicago, where he heard the Jackson brothers perform. An introduction to their father and manager, Joe Jackson, grew into a friendship—and an arrangement for the group to play Frank’s remaining dances.
Frank went on to promote 16 dances, most featuring the Jackson Five, before the group’s move to Motown and worldwide recognition. His memories offer a firsthand perspective on those early performances and the people who helped make them happen.
Written by Frank Brummett and designed by A. Stevens, this illustrated memoir brings together personal recollections and photographs to preserve a chapter of Northwest Indiana music history. It is also the story of how those encounters shaped Frank’s own life, long after the dances ended.
