Description
The Milan Miracle (1954) The 1954 basketball team from Milan, Indiana is one of the great David vs. Goliath stories in the history of sports. At the time, Indiana did not sort out the championships by high school size, so the smallest high school might play against the largest one. Milan was a very tiny town up against Muncie Central, one of the largest schools in the state. To say that the odds were against Milan is an understatement. It was the first and only time a school of that size ever won the state championship. Even though we know the outcome of the game, the last-second shot by Bobby Plump still is a thrill that few games can match.
This material was preserved by Indiana film historian Eric Grayson with a grant from the National Film Preservation Foundation, using film materials from Milan High School.
BONUS GAME The rarely seen Milan Vs. Terre Haute Gerstmeyer game, which was the semi-final that led up to the championship later that night. Considered by many to be a superior game, this comes from a rare print found at the high school. It’s a higher-scoring game with lots of foul shots and physical action, culminating in a savage foul against Bobby Plump at the last moment. It’s amazing he recovered enough to play later. Restoration funded by Kickstarter.
SPECIAL FEATURES Rare commentary taken from reel-to-reel tape of the radio broadcasts of the games, edited to stay in sync (as much as possible) with the games themselves.
THIS IS A LIMITED EDITION OF 1000 DISCS. AFTER THESE ARE SOLD, IT WILL NO LONGER BE AVAILABLE.
