In honor of Black History Month, our team hosted a special Indy soul and jazz display, along with an IMHP information table, at the Harrison Center‘s First Friday Open House. The exhibit featured a curated selection of photos, posters, and recordings highlighting the incredible legacy of Indiana’s music legends. Thank you to Cathy Morris, Arts With A Purpose for inviting us to set up an exhibit. It was a great way to celebrate and share the rich musical history of our community.

Celebrating Black History Month with Indy Soul & Jazz at the Harrison Center

In honor of Black History Month, the Indiana Music History Project team was proud to take part in the Harrison Center’s First Friday Open House with a special exhibit celebrating Indianapolis’s rich soul and jazz heritage.

Our display featured a curated collection of photographs, posters, and recordings, shining a spotlight on the incredible contributions of Black artists who helped shape Indiana’s musical legacy. From timeless jazz greats to iconic soul performers, the exhibit offered a glimpse into the vibrant cultural history that continues to influence music today.

We also hosted an IMHP information table to connect with visitors, share more about our ongoing projects, and invite the community to get involved in preserving and celebrating Indiana’s music history.

A heartfelt thank you goes to Cathy Morris and Arts With A Purpose for the kind invitation to participate. Events like this remind us how powerful music is in bringing people together and keeping local history alive.

Stay tuned for more community exhibits and events as we continue to honor Indiana’s diverse musical roots!
