Description
On January 29, 2024, Indiana Music History Project hosted Phil Ranelin Night at the Chatterbox Jazz Club in Indianapolis.
Ranelin, a product of Indiana Avenue’s storied jazz scene, left Indianapolis at a young age, launching a landmark career that led him to New York City, Detroit, and Los Angeles. While in Detroit, trombonist Ranelin and Wendell Harrison started the Tribe Records label, releasing several important and now rare jazz LP’s. Ranelin was awarded the Key to the City of Detroit.
In his later career, Ranelin continued to work in Los Angeles and released several more albums.
Now retired and back in Indianapolis, Phil Ranelin night featured performances of Phil’s songs, with Phil joining in. This poster was printed in small quantities to promote the event, and is now available here. Printed on light, but sturdy card stock and measures 11×17.
